The tour began at St. Catherine’s Church on Temple Terrace and went south. Literally and figuratively. One home owner forgot about the tour, one back entry gate was locked, one volunteer got a parking ticket and stormed off to City Hall to fight it, deserting her post. But otherwise the tour went well. The route was the most interesting, twice crossing through strategic gardens to end up on different streets. Several large, well-manicured gardens were mixed with tiny, intricate cottage gardens. Novelties included a variegated lemon tree and bromiliads planted in the tops of staghorn ferns. Small gardens are often jammed with interesting ideas.
