Join us on December 9th  for our meeting and enjoy our speaker Nan Sterman. Garden designer, author, botanist, and award-winning garden communicator, Sterman is dedicated to the transformation of planted landscapes from overly thirsty and resource intensive to climate appropriate and sustainable.  Nan’s focus is connecting plants to people and the planet. She takes a wholistic approach, and as a result, wears several titles: garden expert, garden designer, teacher, author, botanist, award winning writer, TV host, and producer, among others.

She will be giving us a presentation entitled, Make Every Drop Count – Manage Water in Your Southern California Garden. Irrigation and water management are ongoing challenges for California gardeners. We’ve always had to be mindful of how much water we use in our gardens. Now with climate change and dwindling water resources, it’s time to make some serious changes. In this talk, Nan Sterman will start with an overview of how water travels almost a thousand miles to reach our taps. She talks about local gardening conditions and presents ten strategies to help make every drop count, including:

  • How group plants so you don’t overwater
  • The best type of irrigation for your garden
  • How long and how often to run your irrigation system
  • How to capture rainfall and bank that water in the soil
  • Using – and reusing water
  • Ways to manage irrigation on slopes
  • And more!
