On Saturday, August 26, Sharon Singer hosted the first-ever Garden Exchange for club members at her Top of the World home. About twenty club members attended and enjoyed stunning ocean views as they swapped cuttings, herbs, fruit, seeds and more from their bountiful summer gardens.  Refreshments were also served.

Sharon is a certified herbalist and is studying horticulture at UCLA. Mostly by word of mouth, she helps individuals and some small businesses install and maintain edible & medicinal gardens. She invited her friend, Tim Culbertson, who works at Sunset Valley Orchids, to lead a hands-on demonstration on how to repot orchids. He brought a flat of mini orchids and potting materials such that everyone could repot and bring home their own orchid. What an unexpected treat!  Tim is the “guru gardener” and science teacher at Discovery Prep School in Aliso Viejo.

Sharon would like to make this an annual or possibly a bi-annual event.  We are looking forward to next year!
