President’s Message, September 2019

Dear Members,

Welcome Back! I hope each of you can look back on a summer filled with precious memories of family, friends and community. Over the summer, I visited several spectacular gardens, traveled and connected with family and friends and feel rejuvenated and excited about the year ahead. I want to use my skills and talents to benefit the world around me, and I want to encourage the same from you.

While editing the club’s membership list, I learned interesting things about you: lots of you have funny, botanical email addresses, 40% of you live outside Laguna Beach, and I was surprised how many members — people who have been in the club for years — I just don’t know. I am committed to expanding my circle and getting to know you better.

This is a great club: welcoming, inclusive and united by a love of gardening. I want it to grow so that more people can experience the “soft landing place” that is the Laguna Beach Garden Club. You can help by bringing a friend or two to every meeting and sharing the benefits of membership.

I hope you take advantage of all this club has to offer, not only our first-rate speaker series and homemade goodies at every meeting, but also chances to get creative gardening and at craft workshops and to take trips to botanical gardens, specialty nurseries and members’ homes. We have a community open house scheduled for our February 2020 meeting and, of course, our May 1st Gate & Garden Tour will be an incredible success. You have many opportunities to get involved in the club and make it stronger. I guarantee the more engaged and connected you are, the happier you will be. There is plenty of science to back that up!

I am so committed to recycling that I am reusing my theme: Celebrating Art & Science in the Garden. I will continue to share my passion for the environment and the planet and bring you small ideas and changes that add up to make a big difference. And, I will continue to find new and fun ways to connect with and serve the community. And, I will learn what ignites your passion and refills your well. I am looking forward to getting to know you as we grow together.

Sincerely,
Nancy Englund
